P&P Tours has exclusive access to 'Longbourn' for tours, day events and suppers.
Millions of women swooned over Colin Firth in the wet shirt scene in the classic BBC production of Jane’s Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. In 2007 we turned our personal passion into a business and now give you the chance to step into the world of period drama adaptations.
Your tour guides are production expert Helen Porter, and Hazel Jones who is an acclaimed authority on Jane Austen and the Regency period.
Helen says, ‘The BBC 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle has proved to be the standard by which all other period dramas on TV and film are judged. There is still a huge fan-base for all things connected with Mr Darcy’s wet shirt, and the architectural stars of the production. In the current downturn we’ve found people see this as the perfect escapist holiday in the UK.” says Helen Wilkinson of P and P Tours.
''When I first decided to run tours to all the P&P 1995 locations I knew Longbourn was an essential centre-piece. Now on every tour my heart still skips a beat when we pull up at the church and I see the house again. I often wondered whether the inside would be unrecognisable from the production, but when we step inside the unchanged hall I swear I can hear Mr Bennet and Lizzie – just down the hall. It’s the best job in the world''.
